The Best Way to Grow Cantaloupe
Переглядів 2,2 тис.3 роки тому
Cantaloupe is actually a vine plant, and has tendrils, that climb up things (if you let them). Cantaloupe prefers growing off the ground, and if you want a better harvest, with fuller fruit, and less bugs trying to eat it before you do, let your cantaloupe climb up the side of a fence. Asian Pears - How to Tell They Are Ripe

Building a Goat Bench
Переглядів 1,5 тис.4 роки тому
Building a sleeping bench will get your goats (or other animals) off the wet, poopy, floor in your barn. This is cheap to build (only 4 pieces of wood and a few deck screws) with no waste. It is easy too, and this video shows you step by step instructions, so that anyone can do it. A goat bench will keep your animals dry (they won’t have to sleep in pee and poop), healthy (they won’t have their...

Saving Fruit Trees and Other Plants from a Freeze
Переглядів 5684 роки тому
If you have fruit trees, berry bushes, grape vines or herbs that already have flowered, or are already growing fruit, you need to protect them from a late spring freeze, or early frost in the fall. We have an unexpected Polar Vortex headed our way, and I need to save my fruit from freezing now, or we won’t have any crops this year! I have tried using the water spray technique to spray fruit so ...

Colony Collapse - My Bees Are Gone!
Переглядів 4984 роки тому
This is what Colony Collapse Disorder looks like. I noticed that there were not many bees pollinating my Secret Garden of Survival, even though there were blossoms everywhere. When I looked into my bee yard, I could not see any bee activity coming in and out of the hives. So I suited up, and went to go inspect what was inside the hives... This what I found. And this is what you can do about it....
My Goats Free Range in the Woods

We run a sustainable off-grid Farm and a big part of that farm is our livestock, which is pretty non-traditional. For example we have Nigerian dwarf Dairy goats to produce all of our milk for our dairy products. These girls are small, don't take up a lot of space, and don't eat a lot of food, yet they produce a tremendous amount of milk each day. Because we look for sustainable ways to run our ...

Bee Hive Inspection in the Secret Garden of Survival

why not just get a real poison ivy killer and be done? Vinegar, dawn, soap, are not cheap and they DON'T WORK---for me anyway.

Actually, peach branches naturally fold over from the weight of the peaches. In this particular case, however, I wanted to make sure that the branch did not break. As time goes on, the branches get thicker and get stronger and can hold more peaches/more weight. No... they did not get brown spots.

He’s worried about just the poison ivy when he also has poison oak right next to it and I’m sure I saw poison sumac in the video too. If you get poison ivy on your skin. You can wash it off with dawn dish soap and super hot tap water will work awesomely as long as you can stand the heat. If you have poison ivy, oak and sumac in your yard. Pot of Boiling hot water on the root stem going into the ground will kill the plant. 🌱

Sorry, but your claim of "killing" it is false. Everyone uses the same formula. I've tried it for years. It shrivels the leaves, but does NOT kill the roots...in fact, it seems to encourage the plants to spread more, since all the growth 📈 s done through the roots..

I see you ran a separate wire to a grounding rod and a neutral to the cage; but since the 3 prong wire has a ground is running a separate wire to a grounding rod necessary? Can you just run a neutral wire from the ground node to one of the mesh components and a hot wire to the other mesh component? I'm struggling with either needing the ground wire through the box as opposed to either relying on the house ground or running a grounding wire from the mesh plate directly to a ground rod and bypassing the box all together. Great idea/video and I'd appreciate your response.

We have been dealing with an Invasion of Rats, like you wouldn't believe! I believe because of the Tremendous amount of construction going on in every direction around the place where we rent. All the construction herds the rats inward to my chicken and duck pen, where also I have food for the animals. I have used Many traps, all kinds of fancy traps, in fact I bought the local Walmart out of traps one summer; So did other people. But I got tired of spending a lot for all those traps and I turned to a type of poison called: Ramik rat poison. Available at IFA Farm stores. It comes in little marble size pellets and is supposed to smell like fish to rats. I only use it where the chickens and ducks Cannot get to it! And when I poor some of these pellets down Rat holes, Sparingly, a week later I get lots of dead rats to dispose of. I dispose of the rats quickly so none of my ducks and chickens have any time to take an interest in them. As of the end of March in 2024 I have killed about 30 rats that I have been able to find. That's 30 rats per month! I am sure there are Many more down in dens underground that I will probably never find. Ramik works pretty well and saves me from buying Cases and cases of rat traps! Also many rats just ignore the traps or are too fast for the traps. I am Not interested in catching the Rats. I want to kill them all if I can! Total Annihilation of the rat population saves me on feed for the animals, and the endless tunnels that they dig everywhere which look bad and are a nuance. Steve Nelson North Ogden, Utah

You must have a wire go to ground from the green terminal block so that the fence charger will work. Since the negative in the trap was insulated because it was glued to Hardy Board, I used the second wire wrapped around the grounding rod next to the trap.

Nice setup for that particular situation, i like the cage idea. In my garage i noticed they were coming in through a small hole at the bottom of a door where it meets the jamb. So i took a short piece of black 2" ABS plastic pipe and drilled two 1/8" holes and fed the hot through one hole and the neutral through the other then spread them apart about an inch and a half so when they crawl through and both wires contact their back......zap!!! I have it plugged into a dedicated circuit that trips immediately and i used some thin aluminum flashing to protect the wall and door about 2 feet up from the floor in case they catch fire. My results are: as soon as one got fried i left it there for a week and havnt had a single rodent come in that way since. Effective.
